20 Questions with Pete Sellon

20 Questions with Varsity Starter Pete Sellon

Pete (Payeton) Sellon is a junior here at Olathe Northwest. She currently is a Guard on the Varsity Squad, formerly on the Junior Varsity squad as a sophomore. Being involved with basketball takes up most of her time, but she is in the explorer's program to learn to become a police officer. Sellon also does track in her free time. Having only played 3 games this season so far, she has started once and hopefully ill start more throughout the season. Sellon gives us some in-site on the basketball season and why she likes to play basketball.

  • Why do you play basketball for the ravens?
-Well I just love playing basketball and its cool to be able to play with the people you go to school with.
  • Who inspires you in basketball and why?
-Travis Releford and Coach Branstrom.
  • How long have you been playing basketball?
-I've played since 2nd grade and I've played since my freshman year at ONW.
  • Why did you decide to play basketball?
-I did play a lot of sports and just stuck with basketball because I liked it better than all of  them.
  • What are your hopes for this season?
-I really wanna go to state and be undefeated but you never know.
  • What are your fears for this season?
-My fear is like last year, almost getting to substate but lost.
  • What were your feelings when you found out you were on varsity?
-I was really excited, just to be able to say I've played in a varsity game.
  • What is your most embarrassing moment?
-All of the times I've tripped and fell.
  • What is your favorite moment for ONW basketball?
-We have a lot of fun times when we go up to Newton and a lot of our away trips are really fun.
  • Do you play any other sports other than basketball?
-I do track and I'm thinking of playing softball this year.
  • How do you think the team chemistry is going to be this year?
- Its really good so far, we are doing a lot more stuff as a team, we also have really good senior leadership.
  • What’s your favorite part of the season?
-The Newton trip is really fun and the state tournament.
  • Do you play for a club basketball team?
-I used to but I don't anymore.
  • How does being on basketball change your view on life?
-It helps me to compare basketball to life and the decisions you make effect other people and just really have a good team too.
  • What has basketball taught you?
-Its taught me that teamwork is really important and helped me learn how to balance work, school, and basketball.
  • What challenges have you had to face while playing basketball?
-There are a lot of good girls so I have to really work hard to get to play on varsity, and has really helped me and made me better at basketball.
  • What are your plans for the future in basketball?
-I would love to play in college, probably a Division II school would be awesome.
  • How will ONW help your plans?
-Im hoping to continue to be on varsity this year and next year and hopefully some scouts will see me.
  • How do you think you did at your game last friday?
-It was an interesting because we have a new offense, so it was a lot of different stuff than last year, and for the first game it was good. We have to work out some kinks here and there but over all we did good.
