A Shooting Stohr

photo 2-4Who is Hannah Stohr?
ONW Senior Hannah Stohr has been part of the women’s basketball program for all  four years of her high school career. During those four years she has participated to the varsity squad for two years.
Stohr loves playing for ONW because “I really wanted an activity in high school, that  could meet a lot of friends and have a close bond with a lot of them, and basketball was probably the best way to do that.”
She’s been playing basketball for about 6 years. Mark Robinson (Robo), a Chemistry teacher here at ONW, inspired her to push thrScreen Shot 2014-12-03 at 2.12.53 PMough and commit to basketball for all this time.
Even though this year the team is smaller than in previous years, they have powerhouse girls that can produce amazing scores. Stohr is hoping to start the season as one of the five people who gets to be a starter, and to have fun.
“I honestly just want to have fun this season, and have the team get along.”
She’s not lying about having fun, each year she has a favorite moment from one season and last year’s was at the Newton Invitational when the girls first arrived to Newton.
“We made a trip to Walmart that night because some girls forgot some stuff, and when we got there Ryley DeMaro and I road the little carts for old ladies, and so we are on these carts and we are weaving in and out of the display cases and we are screaming, then Ryley starts throwing socks and playing chicken with me… When I got away, I turned a corner and foundMr. Branstrom and Ryley and I knew that we were in trouble.”

“Leadership has been a really big thing, it kind of falls on the seniors and you have to wrangle all these kids. But its been really fun stepping up my leadership skills learning how to maintain such a diverse group of girls.”
Stohr doesn’t just like basketball she also has other hobbies.
“I like to ride horses, and I plan on pursuing that in college other than basketball. Not to say I don’t love basketball, it’s just not something I want to pursue in the collegiate level. I may play just for fun. But other than that I plan on going into chemical engineering or environmental engineering.”
Stohr and the girls have their first game, this Friday as a double header vs. Washburn Rural. The girls game is at 5:00pm and the boys game is at 7:00pm in the main gym.
